USAutomatic Patriot Single Swing Gate Opens or Closes then Immediately Reverses Direction
When a single gate leaf opens or closes, then immediately reverses direction, this is most likely caused by incorrect limit switch adjustment. First, verify that the gate does not cross the photocell's path, as this can also cause an unexpected reversal.
Limit Switch Location
The limit switch adjustments are located on the bottom of the actuator motor housing, behind the removable rubber plug. Locate the limit switch adjustment screws and determine which one needs adjustment (see page 32).
Adjustment Procedure
Step 1: Position the Gate
Operate the gate. Once it reaches the desired retract (open) or extend (closed) position, stop the gate using the transmitter or Open/Close Command push button on the Patriot control board.
Step 2: Identify the LED Indicators
Locate the LED Indicator push button on the left side of the control board. Also locate the retract and extend LED indicators below the actuator plug:
- Left LED: Retracted (open) position
- Right LED: Extended (closed) position
Step 3: Check and Adjust Limit Switches
With the gate in the desired position, press and hold the LED Indicator button and observe which LED lights come on:
| Gate Position | LED That Should Be ON | If LED Is OFF |
|---|---|---|
| Retracted (Open) | Left LED | Adjust retract limit switch (see page 32 of manual) until LED comes on |
| Extended (Closed) | Right LED | Adjust extend limit switch until LED comes on |
Step 4: Verify Adjustment
Once adjusted correctly:
- The retract limit LED should be on when the actuator is retracted
- The extend limit LED should be on when the actuator is extended
Note: If the LEDs will not come on after adjustment, contact the manufacturer for further assistance.
