USAutomatic Patriot Swing Gate Opener - Only Operates When the LED Indicator Button is Pressed
When the gate only operates when the LED INDICATOR button is pressed, this indicates an accessory wiring problem, a damaged Gate 2 cable, or a potentially bad control board. This problem can be intermittent and may require patience to locate.
Voltage Testing Procedure
Using a DC voltmeter, take voltage readings on the following connector pins. DO NOT disconnect the J2 plug or actuator cables from the control board when taking these readings.
Readings are DC voltage and must be taken for both the open and close positions.
Test Points
Gate 1 (X1) and Gate 2 (X2) actuator connectors:
- Measure the bottom left and right pins
- Place meter lead in back side of connector where the orange and white wires are located
- If no actuator cable is connected, read the 2 pins in the bottom left and right corner of the connector
Expected Readings
| Reading | Status |
|---|---|
| 5 VDC or 0 VDC | Good/Normal |
| Any other reading | Problem identified |
Correction Steps
If you get abnormal voltage readings (anything other than 5 VDC or 0 VDC):
- Identify the specific pin showing the incorrect reading to determine which device or input circuit is faulty
- Check for wet/damaged wiring: Inspect Gate 2 cable splices and connections for moisture, corrosion, or bare wires touching metal
- Inspect accessory wiring: Trace the wiring for the identified circuit back to its source and look for shorts, opens, or grounding issues
- Test components: Disconnect and test individual devices (safety edges, photo eyes, keypads, etc.) to isolate the faulty component
- If all readings are correct but problem persists: The control board itself may be faulty and require replacement
