USAutomatic Patriot Swing Gate Opener - Dual Gate Opens or Closes then Immediately Reverses Direction

When dual gates open or close, immediately reverse direction; verify that the gates do not cross the path of the photo eye. Obstruction of the photo eye range is most likely caused by incorrect limit switch adjustment on one or both gates.

Step 1: Identify Which Gate Needs Adjustment

Locate the DS1 switches on the Patriot control board. For dual gate operation, switches 3 and 4 should normally both be ON. To isolate which gate has the problem:

  1. Turn switch 4 OFF (disables Gate 2)
  2. Operate Gate 1 and verify it stops in the correct position
  3. If Gate 1 operates correctly, turn switch 4 back ON and turn switch 3 OFF
  4. Operate Gate 2 and verify it stops in the correct position

Note: One or both gates may not stop in the correct position. Identify which gate(s) need adjustment.

Step 2: Adjust Limit Switch(es)

Once the gate needing adjustment is identified (possibly both), refer to Problem 10 (Single Gate Opens or Closes, then Immediately Reverses Direction) steps b through e:

  • Locate limit switch adjustments on bottom of actuator motor housing
  • Position gate at desired open or closed location and stop it
  • Press and hold the LED Indicator button
  • Observe the retract (left) or extend (right) LED below the actuator plug
  • Adjust the appropriate limit screw until the correct LED illuminates

Repeat for the second gate if both require adjustment.
