Dual Gate Will Not Operate

The Ranger 500 USAutomatic Gate Operator is a reliable automatic gate opener that is available in both a single and dual version as well as an AC powered and solar powered version. These gate openers are ideal for residential settings, light commercial applications, and farms and ranches. This troubleshooting article is going to take you through the steps of diagnosing problems with your automatic gate system if it is a Ranger 500 Double Gate Opener.

Troubleshooting Your USAutomatic Ranger 500 Dual Gate Opener when it is Not Operating

• Start by disconnecting the actuator connectors that are plugged into the control board Gate 1 and Gate 2 (X1 and X2). Next, locate the SW1 dipswitches on the control board. Locate switch 4 down on the left side and turn it off. Locate switch 3 down on the right side and turn it on. Take the connector from the actuator and reconnect it to the gate closest to you. Connect it to the Gate 1 (X1) connector on the control board. Press the “Open/Close Command” button and confirm if the gate operates.


• If the gate opens and closes correctly, disconnect the actuator plug and connect the other actuator plug to the Gate 1 (X1) connector. Verify that the gate opens correctly by pushing the “Open/Close Command” button. After you have checked that both actuators are working correctly in Gate 1, go back to SW1 and turn switch 3 off and switch 4 on. Then repeat steps 2 and 3 again using the Gate 2 (X2) connector on the control board in place of Gate 1 (X1).


• If a problem is observed in the previous steps, it was most likely when the Gate 2 actuator (located the greatest distance from the control box) was being tested. If this is the case, check wiring splices for moisture, correct wiring, etc. If the wiring is not in a watertight conduit, it’s most likely the problem. Note that tape is not watertight and splices should never be underground.
