How to Replace a Solar Panel Cable

The solar panel cable runs from your panel to the charge controller. If it is damaged, chewed, or too short for a new panel location, replacing it is quick and easy. You will need a USAutomatic 15 ft Replacement Cable (520017) or 75 ft Extension (520016) if you need extra length.

Steps

  1. Disconnect the old cable from the charge controller and the solar panel.
  2. Connect the new cable. The DC plug end goes into the charge controller or power input. The spade terminals end connects to the solar panel leads
  3. Secure the cable along the fence or post so it cannot swing or get pinched by the gate.
  4. Check the charge controller screen. It should show a live voltage reading from the panel once sunlight is present.

Pro Tip! If your panel is more than 15 feet from the controller, use the 75 ft Extension (520016) instead of splicing wires.
