How to Hardwire the Battery Controller to a Battery

The USAutomatic 520001 Battery Controller accepts direct-wire leads for a permanent battery connection. Use this method when you want a secure, hardwired power setup for your gate opener. Compatible batteries include: 12V SLA, FLD, GEL, or AGM. Do not use Lithium-ion.

Steps

  1. Connect the leads to the battery first. Match red to (+) and black to (-).
  2. Attach the controller's direct wire leads (14-18 gauge) to the battery terminals. Make sure polarity is correct.
  3. Check the LCD screen. It should display the current battery voltage, confirming power is flowing.
  4. Connect your charging source. Plug in the solar panel or DC Transformer (Part # 520009) to the controller's power input.

Safety Notes

  • Never install the controller in a sealed enclosure with flooded batteries. This causes a risk of explosion.
  • If the LCD stays blank, check for reversed polarity or a battery drained below 10.5V.
