How to Hard Wire a DC Adapter to the Battery Controller

The USAutomatic 520001 Battery Controller can accept power from the 520009 DC Adapter either by barrel plug or direct wire leads. Use the direct wire method if your plug is damaged, or if you are running cable through conduit. You will need a USAutomatic 520009 DC Adapter and the 520001 Battery Controller.

Steps

  1. Connect the battery to the controller first. Match red to (+) and black to (-). The LCD will show the current battery voltage once connected.
  2. Prepare the DC adapter wires. If the 520009 still has its barrel plug, cut it off and strip the ends to expose about 1/4 inch of wire.
  3. Insert the wires into the Power Source Input terminal block on the controller. Tighten the screws to secure them. Match positive (+) and negative (-) polarity.
  4. Plug the adapter into the wall outlet. The controller LCD should display the charging symbol.
  5. Watch the LCD. A steady charging symbol means power is flowing. A flashing symbol means the battery is full and in float mode.

For your wire gauge: Use 14-18 gauge direct wire leads for the power input

If the Screen Stays Blank

  • Check battery polarity. Reverse connections will prevent the controller from turning on.
  • Verify adapter output. The 520009 should deliver approximately 20 VDC.
