How to Change the Security Code on a Premium Metal Wireless Keypad
If your gate is opening when someone nearby uses their keypad, or your keypad is triggering a neighbor's gate, the security code needs to be changed. The Premium Metal Wireless Keypad (Part #050551) uses nine virtual switches, each assigned one of three positions: #, 0, or *. Together, these nine switches form a unique security code that tells the receiver which keypad it should respond to. Changing this code gives your keypad a distinct signal that other keypads in the area will not share.
Work through the steps below quickly. The keypad has a short timeout between key presses. If it exits programming mode before you finish, start over from the beginning. Writing down your sequence ahead of time will help you move through it without pausing.

Step 1: Determine Your New Security Code
Before touching the keypad, decide on your new security code using the chart below. Each of the nine switches must be assigned exactly one position: #, 0, or *. No two switches should share the same position assignment across the board, and your combination should be unique enough that it does not match other keypads nearby.

Use the blank chart above to map out your new security code before programming. The example below shows a filled-in chart for reference.

This example produces the security code sequence: 1# 20 3* 4* 5# 6* 7# 80 9*
Step 2: Enter the Master Password and Press 6
Enter your Master Password on the keypad, then press 6. The factory default is 11111. You should hear two short beeps confirming the keypad is ready for programming. One long beep means the Master Password was entered incorrectly. If you no longer know your Master Password, it will need to be reset before continuing. Check the troubleshooting section below for more information.
Step 3: Enter Each Switch Number Followed by Its Position
Starting with switch 1, enter the switch number and then its assigned position. The keypad will give two short beeps after each pair to confirm it was accepted. Repeat this for all nine switches in order. After entering switch 9 and its position, continue to the next step.
Using the example code from the chart above, you would enter:
- 1, then #
- 2, then 0
- 3, then *
- 4, then *
- 5, then #
- 6, then *
- 7, then #
- 8, then 0
- 9, then *
Step 4: Enter # and Then Press 6
Once all nine switches have been entered, press # followed by 6. Two short beeps confirm the new security code has been saved. If you hear one long beep, something was entered incorrectly. Start over from Step 2 and work through the sequence again without pausing between key presses.
Troubleshooting
The keypad exited programming mode before I finished.
The keypad times out quickly between key presses. If this happens, start over from Step 2. Going through the full sequence without any pausing will prevent the timeout. Writing down every key press in order before you start is the easiest way to avoid this.
I hear one long beep after entering the Master Password.
A long beep at the Master Password step means the password was not accepted. Confirm you are using the correct password. The factory default is 11111. If the password has been changed and you do not know what it is, you will need to reset it using your PUK code, which is printed on a label inside the battery compartment.
I hear one long beep at the end of the sequence.
A long beep after pressing # and 6 means one or more entries in the sequence were not accepted. Double-check that each switch number was followed immediately by its assigned position (#, 0, or *) and that you entered all nine switches before pressing # and 6. Start over from Step 2 and move through the sequence without pausing.
The gate is still triggering from a nearby keypad after changing the security code.
The new security code also needs to be updated on the receiver side. After changing the code on the keypad, you will need to re-pair the keypad to your receiver so the receiver learns the new signal. Refer to the LCR Receiver Programming Manual above for pairing instructions.
